Scope/ Purpose of the Position 
  • Responsible for the smooth cargo operations in the region through close coordination with GHAs and staff.
  • Responsible to ensure the rules and regulations of Air Canada Cargo are followed at all stations in the region with regards to Security, Safety, Compliance, Operations, Performance and Quality. 
  • Monitor and develop adherence to regulations outlined by local authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure strict compliance to IATA regulations for the effective movement of inbound and outbound cargo.
Key Functions & Accountabilities
  • Regional responsibility for all Safety, Security, Operational and Performance matters in the region. Ensure compliance with all industry, legislative, and local regulations. 
  • Manage the performance of Operations teams in the region on freighter and belly space of passengers to control performance, quality, safety, and security issues. 
  • Start-up of new stations on all operations matters in communication with HQ.
  • Implement new strategies in coordination with HQ for best practices to achieve operation excellence. 
  • Contract negotiation for the best interest of Air Canada Cargo in coordination with HQ
  • Initiate and implement steps to improve the quality of service and operational standards.
  • Carry out station audits with HQ periodically and ensure constant assessment of risks.
  • Liaise with local authorities for obtaining permission to comply with regulatory issues related to cargo operations. 
  • Ensure operations staff and GHA employees are comply with mandatory training requirements with valid licences for cargo handling. 
  • Ensure control measures of all costs including consumables, ULDs, trucking. Ensure consistent verification processes for all operational/ handling related costs and invoice.
  • Establish the operations team objective and priorities to align with HQ and support business objectives, with regular appropriate changes when necessary. 
  • Ensure and plan for the growth of operations staff. Recommend any changes of processes or procedures to support or enhance Cargo business
  • Coordinate and conduct performance evaluations for staff and coach where needed
  • Represent Air Canada at meetings with airport authorities, government agencies and other airline cargo representatives when necessary
NOTE:   Actual duties and responsibilities may include any or all of the functional duties & responsibilities listed above plus any other related tasks as assigned by the employee’s superior.


  • Undergraduate degree 
  • Previous experience in cargo operation (15 years minimum), LATAM exposure preferred 
  • GHA and GSA management experience 
  • Demonstrable leadership and interpersonal skills (i.e., self-motivated, autonomous and results oriented)
  • Must have an ability to use tact, good judgement, and initiative, with a flexible attitude and willingness to make decisions for the benefit of both Air Canada Cargo and our Customers     
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan workload and meet deadlines 
  • Strong negotiating, communication, and presentation skills
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, both oral and in writing
