The Manager, Aircraft Import and Export’s primary responsibility is to ensure that aircraft being introduced or re-delivered conform to the type certificate and meet operational requirements. Exercising the delegated (Power of Attorney) attest to the airworthiness condition and conformity of the aircraft on behalf of Air Canada to Transport Canada.

This role requires extensive coordination with the Aircraft Programs department who has overall responsibility for financial, commercial, and legal aspects as well as coordination of activities with other AC branches that interface with AC Maintenance.

Key Functions & Accountabilities: 
  • Establish program plan, timelines, and communication strategy 
  • Monitor risks and establish mitigation strategies
  • Establish and manage financial requirements and human resources
  • Develop synergies with internal customers, Aircraft Programs and third parties (e.g. Lessors)
  • Support commercial and legal aspects of each project
  • Liaise with Airworthiness and Civil Aviation Authorities
  • Review and ensure engineering specifications include all necessary requirements and supporting documentation for aircraft import and export activities.
  • Ensure supporting documentation requirements for modifications and non-OEM repairs are available
  • Determine and establish airworthiness oversight during aircraft Import and Export activities
  • Provide entry-to-service support as required
  • Provide training and manage the Airworthiness delivery team
  • Complete and process application for Certificates of Airworthiness.
  • Transport Canada filings 
  • Ensure assigned personnel are aware of and following company policies, procedures, and standards as well as customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support of investigations resulting from any quality escapes, incidents, accidents or reported hazards through the QA/SMS program. 
  • Promotes Air Canada’s Safety management system programs and enforces the observance of all safety precautions related to the duties of the production personnel
  • Establish standards (structured filing system) for the records packaging related to aircraft Import & Export activities.    
  • Participate in aircraft evaluations
  • Support Invalid Configuration handling process
Minister Delegate Maintenance (MD-M) Internal Oversight 
  • Provide the necessary resources to support the Import & Export activities.
  • Ensure Power of Attorney documents are current
  • Support the MD-M’s as required (travel, tools, IT requirements)
  • Facilitates and resolves MD-M concerns and discrepancies.
  • Maintain Control Manual policies and processes related to aircraft Import & Export activities.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination Required as of October 31st 2021
  • Must hold a valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence (AME) 
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and experience dealing with a large number of people in customer and supplier relationships. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction to a team of direct and indirect reports in a fast-changing environment. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), environmental and other regulatory requirements, policies, and standards. 
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance Program development, Maintenance Steering Group - 3 (MSG3) analysis, documentation requirements, reliability monitoring also an asset. 
  • Strong understanding of an airline operations
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Willingness to travel
  • Transport Canada Minister Delegate -Maintenance (MD-M) delegation is an asset.
  • Willingness to study and train to attain MD-M delegation while in the role.
