The Pairings and PBS Awards Manager is responsible for the development and production of the pairings and block awards for Air Canada Rouge and /or Mainline Pilots using the Pairings and the Preferential Bid Systems.  The oversight of this position includes system testing, evaluating results, and producing pilot pairings & awards that meet regulatory and contractual requirements, maximize productivity, and achieve sustainable cost reductions.

  • Manage both Pairings and PBS system updates, issues, and enhancements with the software vendors.  Maintain and enhance vendor relationship to drive results.
  • Develop, analyze and distribute pilots’ monthly planned pairings utilizing optimization system and corporate planning schedules in accordance with the ACPA Collective Agreement and CARs rules.
  • Responsible for producing monthly pilot schedules using the Preferential Bid Systems (PBS).
  • Responsible for developing test scripts for new releases, contract changes, and soft rule changes.  Evaluate, recommend, implement and manage existing and new procedures and processes.
  • Represent and participate in regular meetings with all related groups that are involved in the Pairings and PBS processes.
  • Pro-actively identify issues and/or changes to the crew planning business processes based on test and productions results that will improve crewing efficiency and minimize costs for the company.
  • Generate and produce monthly and annual reports related to department objectives.  I.e. average block times, trip distribution, and station / base utilization reports.
  • Manage costs and track performance relative to crew cycle expenses – trip guarantees, deadheading, hotels/transportation, meals and expenses. 
  • Analyze business requirements for Pairings and PBS in order to create specifications and conduct system testing.
  • Responsible for representing the company when dealing with the Air Canada Pilots’ Association and in resolving issues within the PBS committee.
  • Manage PBS processes for flight training requirements; including OE/RLC, QOE/TLC, and IOE.
  • Additional supplemental duties and special projects as assigned.




  • University degree, college diploma or equivalent industry experience required.
  • Results oriented and attention to details.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows based programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Air Canada system knowledge an asset.
  • Previous experience working with Collective Agreements
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and to prioritize heavy workloads and tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • An understanding of the airline operational environment and Air Canada systems and processes.
  • Experience with flight crew scheduling or planning, an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • IT experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Air Canada/ACPA Collective Agreement
