The Business Process Manager is responsible to execute the approved Business Process Management Strategy for assigned operations processes. Proactively collaborating with operations business unit managers and stakeholders, this role will align process standards, integrating lean enterprise system principles into Air Canada operations. The Business Process Manager utilizes lean methods for evaluating process health, and mentor’s process owners and managers on how to improve process health in their area of the business. This role also owns and maintains the overall value stream process maps and, if required, provides process mapping support to the value stream.

  • For assigned value stream, completes gap analysis on business process ownership and collaborates with business leaders and BUPM owners to identify owners / process responsibilities.
  • Supports the value stream teams and operations with value stream mapping using Business Process Management standards.
  • Mentors business on process standards, expectations and templates for effective Business Process Management. 
  • Conducts reviews of operations processes and identifies opportunities for efficiency improvements / redesign, service level improvements and standardization. Utilizes lean methods for evaluating process health (i.e. Process Cycle Efficiency, Throughput, Rework, Lead Time, Defects). 
  • Adds opportunities to value stream pipeline for prioritization and benefit evaluation.
  • Completes a PFMEA (Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) with business process owners for key processes to evaluate process risk and aids the business with identifying opportunities for process controls (i.e. error-proofing).
  • Contributes to the development of user friendly tools and templates to support process management / health evaluations. 
  • Collaborates with Operations Excellence Teams on process challenges and support requirements. Works with the business to ensure their Process Manuals are current and new processes are properly documented /changes communicated.
  • Supports the implementation of a BPM / Business Process Mining system as determined by the business.
  • Expands knowledge of new/different industry Best Practices.


  • Ability to cultivate strong collaborative working relationships in a matrix reporting environment.
  • Ability to mentor / coach business colleagues on the use of BPM and lean concepts.
  • Effective communication skills and able to influence and persuade others to action.
  • Experience mapping cross-functional business processes and facilitating process mapping sessions.
  • Strong Process Management skills and a passion for delivering results.
  • Inquisitive, always on the lookout to improve process efficiency, service levels and standardize operations.
  • BPM / Process Mining, Lean Concepts / Value Stream experience.
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience with Business Process Management.
  • LEAN qualifications; familiar with lean measures/approaches such as PCE, TAKT, Throughput, Kanban, One-Piece Flow, Control Charts, etc.
  • Documents Process Mapping in Visio, and/or other Business Process Tools.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Able to travel.
