The Manager, Climate Solutions is responsible for leading the expansion of the Leave Less Travel Program and other climate solutions offerings aligning with the company’s Climate Action Plan and decarbonization strategy. The Leave Less Travel Program is a key component of Air Canada’ climate strategy and consist into a customer offering to mitigate their Scope 3 emissions associated with either air travel or air freight transportation via the purchase of carbon offsets credits and/or sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) environmental attributes. This role requires strong communication and engagement skills in order to identify the best opportunities at every customer touchpoint, as well as strong abilities to understand and vulgarize complex climate-related concepts.
Responsabilities:
- As a climate subject-matter expert, enhance, implement and manage Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Program and other climate solutions products and offering in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as the main point of contact for the Leave Less Travel Program both with internal and external customers, including leading pitch calls, meeting customers in person when required, attending external events, and preparing the agreements when required.
- Lead the Leave Less Travel Program evolution, and its strategic expansion by:
- Acting as the main point of contact and coordinating efforts among internal departments: information sharing, meetings coordination, prioritization of expansion, etc.
- Conduct data analytics on sales trends and forecasts for future purchase of SAF environmental attributes and carbon offsets credits.
- Enhance Leave Less Travel Program product presence in market, including any revisions considering anti-greenwashing regulations, guidelines and best practices.
- Provide recommendations to decision-makers regarding Leave Less Travel Program expansion and other climate solutions products and offerings, that will have a significant impact on the Air Canada’s GHG emissions.
- Build the Leave Less Travel Program expansion by developing a customized strategy to each customers touchpoints with a customized product.
- Deliver the Leave Less Travel Program expansion to selected customers touchpoints by coordinating, getting internal alignment and buy-in and working with project manager(s).
- Manage and administer the Leave Less Travel Program, including the following but not limited to:
- Develop, enhance, manage and maintain Air Canada’s SAF Registry, and its associated documentation and records.
- Develop, enhance, manage and maintain Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Program customers registry, and its associated documentation and records.
- Create, maintain, enhance, manage and distribute any Leave Less Travel Program official documents such as promoting material, Leave Less Travel Program certificates, etc.
- Develop and manage any Leave Less Travel Program training materials, including the FAQ and other supporting documents.
- Monitor, advise, communicate and provide recommendations on SAF and carbon offset credits purchases across all customers touchpoints, including the development of relevant dashboards in collaboration with the Manager, Climate Intelligence.
- Proceed to the allocation of SAF environmental attributes and manage the invoicing requirements, including any customization from the customers, as defined in their specific agreements.
- Monitor agreement terms and proactively engage in renewal discussions.
- Build and continuously improve the Leave Less Travel Program SOPs and process any related documents and records.
- Support annual internal review and external audits of the Leave Less Travel Program and the assessment of its certificates, in collaboration with the Manager, Environmental Audits & Training.
- Provide subject matter expertise in the implementation of Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Program in co-operation with internal stakeholders and the Climate Action Plan Program Manager.
- Provide subject matter expertise regarding SAF chain of custody (mass balance, book and claim, etc.) and SAF accounting regulatory and policy development.
- Support the management of the financial aspects of the climate change programs, including budgeting for projects and ensuring cost-effectiveness of sustainable aviation fuels and carbon offsets strategy.
- Provide subject matter expertise and inter-branch coordination in developing project plan, business cases, and identification of external funding sources and application.
- Participate and represents Environmental Affairs at various internal working groups and external events.
- Provide subject matter expertise in influencing the development of domestic and international environmental policies and standards related to climate change, carbon offsetting, and SAF.
- Work in close collaboration with the other members of the Climate team and support their projects, programs or initiatives when needed.
- Monitor emerging technologies and best practices from around the world and conducts research analysis for policy development and shares this knowledge with internal stakeholders.
- Continually maintain a high level of professional proficiency and knowledge of all environmental matters, regulations, technologies, and developments.
- Shares good practices and problems/lessons learned with colleagues, departments, and alliance carriers.
Qualifications
- University degree in Commerce, Business, Finance Engineering, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
- Minimum 6 years experience in related GHG management, environmental project management, aviation environmental management or pertinent aviation experience.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in large project implementation.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in product development and commercialization.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of climate change mitigation, fuel procurement, low carbon/sustainable aviation fuels and carbon offsets credits.
- Knowledge and understanding of greenwashing regulations and anti-greenwashing guidelines and best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial systems and accounting methodology.
- Ability to work with design/creative software (Adobe InDesign, Canva, etc.).
- Ability to accurately interpret Government legislation, ISO standards, CORSIA guidelines and related regulations
- Knowledge of GHG programs and standards (CDP, TCFD, GRI, EcoVadis, ISO14064-1/-2/-3, etc.), an asset.
- Highly developed facilitation and negotiation skills, including an ability to foster strong relationships with and manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven project management skills involving multiple departments with exceptional problem solving, analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Strong ability to prioritize activities and excellent time management and organizational.
