The Specialist, Data & Analytics will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and ongoing management of Data Protection Controls within Air Canada's data environment. This position is responsible for ensuring the effective deployment and maintenance of data protection mechanisms, including Personal Information (PI) Access, Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC), and Data Classification. The Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that data protection standards are adhered to, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This role is essential in strengthening Air Canada's data governance framework, ensuring that data is securely managed.

This position will be reporting to Senior Manager, Data Governance. 

Functional Accountabilities:

  • Lead the deployment of Data Protection Controls across Air Canada's data environment, focusing on Personal Information (PI) Access, Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC), and Data Classification.
  • Manage the effectiveness of data protection controls, ensuring they meet organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Regularly review and update data protection policies and procedures to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and business needs.
  • Ensure that Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC) are properly implemented and maintained.
  • Partner with business units to define and enforce access policies that align with data protection objectives.
  • Develop and enforce data classification procedures to categorize and protect data based on its sensitivity and criticality.
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity teams to ensure that data classification efforts are aligned with broader frameworks.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization to promote awareness and understanding of data protection controls.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on the importance of data protection and their role in safeguarding information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science or Business Analytics.
  • 9+ years of IT technology or operations related experience in a large company.
  • Certifications in Data Governance Frameworks, such as DAMA and/or DCAM would be a plus.
  • Track record working with data from multiple sources and willingness to dig-in and understand the data and to leverage creative thinking to deliver results.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud or Snowflake) and data warehousing.
  • Knowledge of Data Governance Platforms (Alation, Collibra, Informatica) 
  • Ability to foster teamwork, and to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading and facilitating workshops with different types of stakeholders. 
  • Ability to anticipate consequences of situations and take action to be prepared for potential contingencies.
  • Flexibility and resilience to work under tight deadlines and adjust to rapidly changing conditions.
  • Ability to notice, interpret, and anticipate others’ concerns or reactions and communicate with them empathetically.
  • Bias to action in search of business objectives with focus on meeting customer expectations
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
