The Assistant Trader will report to the Head Trader and will execute mainly money market, repo, bond forward and foreign exchange transactions. 

Role and responsibilities:

  • Capture trade information into the front office system and ensure that the information is communicated to the back-office staff promptly
  • Reconcile data from various sources to ensure that all trade decisions are made using accurate information
  • Execute trades on money market instruments and repos
  • Assist in managing all cash accounts and foreign currency exposures
  • Track the performance, risks and exposures of various internally managed portfolios and individual strategies across all asset classes
  • Assist in documenting procedures to ensure trading policies are followed
  • Liaise with brokers and filter relevant information to other traders and portfolio managers
  • Liaise with other internal teams
  • Act as a resource person for both back-office and front-office staff for all trading/settlement related processes

Qualifications

Academics and Work Experience:

  • University diploma in finance, mathematics or economics
  • Master’s degree is an asset
  • Possessing a professional designation (CFA) is an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of all Microsoft Office products and the Bloomberg information system
  • Ability to communicate easily in French and English (both written and spoken)
  • At ease with sophisticated front-office and accounting systems
  • Knowledge of listed and OTC derivatives
  • Python computer programming an asset

Linguistic Requirements:

Bilingualism (English and French). This position requires proficiency in a language other than French to provide support to clients and employees located outside Quebec or who require services in a language other than French.
