Air Canada is looking for a talented Analyst, Data & Analytics (data modeler) to assist with the design and implementation of our databases. The candidate must have solid data modeling experience and must demonstrate an affinity for working with others to create Data Warehouse (DW) solutions.
To ensure success as a data modeler, the candidate must be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and have experience working with business areas to translate their business data needs and data questions into project or enhancement requirements. The incumbent must have a solid background in Data Analysis as well as on the job experience as a data modeler. This position provides the opportunity to be involved in new BI and DW solutions, such as Dashboards and Reports, Big Data Solutions and to work with many different business areas within the company. He/she will participate in all phases of the DW development life cycle as well as support the day-to-day operations as it pertains to data modeling improvements and supporting the existing platform.
Responsibilities:

Develop dimensional models and views needed for data analytics and reporting.

Perform data model consolidation and integration to integrate new silos of organizations source data to the data platform.

Build model aggregation layers and specific star schemas as subject areas within a logical and physical model.

Facilitate and/or participate in agile sessions to assess, capture, and translate complex business issues and requirements into structured data architecture and data modeling use case requirements.

Hold conceptual and logical data model reviews with product managers/data subject matter experts.

Evaluate and extract the general principles from specifics and conceptualize and design data model.

Collaborate with the Data Analyst in the elaboration of the “Source to Target” mapping.

Develop, enhance, and manage conceptual data models, enterprise logical data models (LDM) and, physical data model (PDM) for the data platform.

Ensure data lineage mapping across implementations for the platform.

Analyse and meet referential data integrity requirements based on business needs.

Develop and/or assist in generating source to target data mapping.

Evaluate and apply logical entity-relational design concepts.

Develop and maintain fully defined conceptual, logical and physical dimensional data models to ensure the information models are capable of meeting end user and developer needs.

Develop data models and data migration strategies utilizing best practice concepts of data modeling including star schema, snowflake schema, Vault etc.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a similar field.
-
Experience building enterprise grade data models cross platforms.
-
5+ years of experience using the following modeling techniques: 3rd Normal form, ERD, Dimensional modelling (Star Schema / Snowflake Schema)

5+ years of experience with data management standards and data model practices.

Experience with relational modeling, domain modeling, and dimensional modeling as well as accompanying supporting documents.

Experience in Data Vault 2.0 Modeling.

Experience with metadata management and its use for modeling activities.

Experience with creating data model and data structure in Erwin Modeling.

Thorough knowledge of conceptual and logical data modeling and familiarity with physical database design and optimization concepts.

Strong knowledge of common standards and best practices for data elements, data types, and file formats.

Ability to conceive and describe the big picture.

Solid analytical and strong problem-solving skills

Proven ability to quickly work with multiple key stakeholders, and ability to focus on cross-group collaboration.

Data analysis/profiling and reverse engineering of data. Strong knowledge of relational and multi-dimensional database architectures.

Excellent interpersonal skills

Strong Communication skills, Oral and Written

Knowledge of SQL
-
Working knowledge of both Waterfall and Agile development methodologies.

Data quality processing experience in transportation industry, an asset.
