Air Canada, ranked among the top five most attractive companies to work for in Canada, is seeking a Strategic Procurement Manager –Global Travel, who will be based at our Montreal Headquarters. 
 
Strategic Procurement (SP) is comprised of several Category Management teams and a Centre of Excellence (COE). The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Global Travel, Meetings & Events and will play a key role for all aspects of hotel accommodations and ground transportation initiatives related to employee corporate travel, training, branch meetings and events. Given the breadth and varied nature of the activities within this portfolio, this opportunity will provide interaction with key stakeholders in many parts of the organization.  The individual must be highly attentive and detail oriented and can instill confidence through being resourceful in finding and confirming travel itineraries that are personalized to serving senior executives and executive assistants.
 
This role requires someone who will be a key contributor in creating synergies and leverage spend and relationships with hotels and meeting spaces across all branches within Air Canada. The successful candidate will apply a passion for leadership and collaboration in order to obtain the best value for the airline and to develop mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.
 
Responsibilities
 
The Strategic Procurement Manager will manage our Employee Corporate Travel spend and relationship with our 3rd party travel management team to ensure negotiated rates with Hotels and ground transportation (GT) providers are delivered in a cost-effective manner to employees.  The Global Travel Category includes procurement activities with Hotel Chains, various ground service providers and partnerships with 3rd party travel management companies including those that manage our passengers during irregular operations.   This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams and support in delivering strategic leadership, focused on value delivery, efficiency / cost savings, governance and control. 
 
In this role, responsibilities will include conducting supply market research, follow established sourcing strategies, co-ordinate competitive bid processes, draft and conduct Request for Proposals, help plan, track and audit the overall travel policy, support negotiations and contract execution with Hotels and ground service providers on an ongoing basis.
 
In greater detail, key areas of responsibility include the following:
  • Support corporate category procurement strategies:
    • Develop and maintain an understanding of the hospitality industry and supply market trends in various regions around the world to strengthen Air Canada’s negotiating positions
    • Stay abreast of Air Canada’s Corporate strategic initiatives and priorities through close collaboration with various internal branches 
    • Analyse and monitor category spend and expiring contracts to uncover potential sourcing and consolidation opportunities  
  • Contribute to the overall development of our Corporate Travel Program, Training, Meetings and Events
    • Assist in the procurement process to support the accommodation and transportation requirements for Air Canada’s employees and approved consultants 
    • Ensure negotiated rates and discounts are provided and loaded into Air Canada’s online corporate travel platform
    • Oversee and ensure that Air Canada’s corporate travel online booking tool is properly updated with preferred supplier rates and inventory availability
    • Vendor manage our 3rd party travel management company
    • Help build relationships with independent Hotels and Hotel Chains that will support competitive corporate travel rates and amenities for our employees
    • Report compliance to corporate travel policies 
    • Participate and work along with the Employee Travel & Recognition branch, supporting policies related to Hotel stays and spend  
    • Leverage Air Canada’s total travel spend to drive decreased costs and offer benefits to travellers 
    • Encourage and promote our standard approved booking channel for all corporate travel 
    • Coordinating all elements of travel related to hotel, car rental and other miscellaneous needs
  • Manage Procurement events;  
    • Manage relationships between multiple stakeholder groups across the organization to assist in the selection process of hotel accommodation and meeting space 
    • Ensure that hotel quality issues and feedback are addressed in a timely and effective manner
    • Establish full visibility into spend across the organization for all aspects of travel management
    • Prepare and issue RFPs, evaluate responses and perform site inspections, when necessary.
    • Support in the negotiations to help improve contract terms & conditions, pricing models and rates with all Hotels and ground service providers 
  • Act as an ambassador for Strategic Procurement and Air Canada
    • Further develop SP’s relationships with internal customers over the course of procurement events
    • Effectively communicate and promote the successes of SP 
    • Actively engage in learning Air Canada’s business processes
    • Continually seek areas for improvement

Qualifications

In addition to a university degree in a relevant field of study (business/commerce, math, engineering) the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills plus the ability to multi-task, work under pressure with short timelines, and accommodate changing priorities. A strong entrepreneurial spirit and desire to learn will also be critical. Strong organizational skills are essential
  • University degree in in a relevant field of study (commerce, supply chain, engineering, information technology)
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), analytical, negotiation, and project management skills
  • Ability to influence without formal authority
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to innovate, intellectual curiosity and creative thinking
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and accommodate changing priorities
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion is essential
  • Previous working experience as a corporate travel manager an asset 
  • Hotel Management experience, an asset (meetings & events, operations)
  • Completion of (or working towards) SCMP designation, ISM or other procurement designation is an asset
