Overview
Air Canada is currently undergoing (i) an exciting development plan which involves expansion into new markets, development of new products as well as establishment of a freighter business and (ii) a finance and tax transformation project. Both of which, combined with the changing international direct tax landscape, is resulting in increased demand for international tax planning and expertise.
The Manager, International Tax will report to the Dublin based Director, International Taxes and be involved with (i) managing international direct tax risks in relation to new routes/markets and business products/projects, (ii) reviewing agreements with external suppliers, (iii) assisting with the planning and implementing of finance and tax transformation project and (iv) other ad-hoc projects.
The role will work closely with (i) commercial and operational teams, (ii) legal, finance, treasury teams and (iii) globally based international finance team.
The role and responsibilities can be adapted to someone at either (1) recently qualified level with a desire to move into a tax manager role or (2) a tax manager looking for a new challenge.
The role will consist of:

Assessing the direct tax implications of proposed transactions and proposing and implementing solutions to minimize tax implications

Responsible for ensuring that Air Canada meets new and changing international direct tax obligations and processes by coordinating with internal teams and external advisors

Proactively following international direct tax developments and keeping Director up to date on same

Undertaking research on Air Canada’s direct tax risks in foreign jurisdictions including new international developments such as BEPS 2.0

Acting as a subject matter expert for finance colleagues in relation to Air Canada’s international direct tax obligations

Responsible for assisting international finance team with direct tax audit including providing tax technical assistance

Managing foreign withholding tax obligations in relation to contracts with suppliers and customers

Reviewing contracts with third parties to manage Air Canada’s international tax compliance obligations

Assisting Director with submissions and representations on new international tax developments

Assisting with other ad-hoc international direct tax issues
Qualifications
-
Degree in Business, Finance or Tax with a strong academic record
-
CTA/AITI qualified (finalist may be considered with relevant experience)

Accounting designation desired
-
Experiences/Knowledge of interpreting tax treaties

Strong analytical skills combined with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities

Sound judgment, organizational and decision-making skills

Strong business acumen

Excellent communication skills, oral and written

Knowledge or interest in aviation industry a distinct advantage

To succeed in this role, the incumbent should be curious, flexible, and perseverant

Second language, in particular Spanish or French is distinct advantage

Must have the right to work without restriction in one of the following countries Ireland, Canada, United Kingdom or Mexico
