Reporting to the CFO, the candidate will be mainly responsible of the different tax strategies and tax compliance requirement of the investment manager (TCC Inc.)  and the different funds of TCC. The ideal candidate will have developed his/her sense of priorities, be rigorous and will be able to work efficiently. TCC offers a complex financial environment in which the candidate will be able to play a leading role in the development of the different tax subject of the firm.

The position is based in downtown Montréal.
 
Role and Responsibilities: 
  • Participate actively to the structure and implementation of new funds to ensure that they are compliant and tax optimal for the investors
  • Act as Tax expert for the onboarding of new clients and the creation of new TCC funds to ensure tax optimization and compliance
  • Participate to the structure and implementation of investments with external managers
  • Work with external consultants to file the necessary forms and returns to obtain refunds of withholding taxes in various countries
  • Responsible of the withholding tax process for all TCC Funds, including any reclaim, and ensure that the withholding taxes are allocated to the right investors
  • Ultimate responsible for the determination of the appropriate withholding tax rate used in the various TCC Funds
  • Supervise FATCA, CRS and withholding statements for all TCC entities, including the TCC Funds
  • Supervise the preparation of the tax returns for TCC inc. and the subsidiaries
  • Supervise the preparation of the Canadian and U.S tax returns for the TCC funds and the Master Trust, such as T2, T3, T5013, T1135, T1134, K1 and K3
  • Manage the relationship between TCC and the tax team of Air Canada
  • Contribute proactively to strategic decisions regarding the tax structure of the firm to support its growth
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing quarterly income allocation to the investors of the different TCC funds
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned or required and act as a resource person for team members as necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a professional designation, such as CPA
  • Master in tax, desirable
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in tax
  • Experience with hedge fund, alternative investments and investment managers, an important asset
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel)
  • Bilingual (spoken/written) French and English, essential
  • Genuine interest/ knowledge in both complex and simple financial products
