Purpose: 
 
The Director, Data & Analytics Operations ensures consistency, quality, and reliability of the data and analytics technology platforms and the movement of critical flows of data from source systems through the platforms.  The role will also ensure that a quality DataOps methodology,is implemented for proper development and deployment of data for organizational analytical uses. In addition, the role will be responsible for a team that supports enterprise data reporting.
 
The incumbent will work very closely with IT Operations to maintain consistency of incident discovery and resolution, understanding that data related issues are a specialization of IT incidents.  The role will work very closely with IT Service Management and business stakeholders in the IT Business Partner team as well as in the business to ensure consistency of how service levels are set, managed, and measured to ensure predictable and acceptable DataOps. The role will be part of evolving the quality and performance of the data technology platforms to meet defined targets and to drive toward greater efficiency. 
 
The role operates in a significantly complex environment and requires the ability to balance tactical day-to-day initiatives with strategic initiatives. This role requires innovation and conceptualization of moving the organization forward in terms of its IT agility, value and alignment with the business goals established by the IT leadership.

Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
  • Establish trust in data veracity and consistency with all Data Stakeholders. 
  • Transition all data and analytics projects to operations in accordance with Air Canada’s Transition To Operations (TTO) processes.
  • Manage DataOps including , release management, deployment, orchestration, error handling, production monitoring, and daily operations.
  • Create and maintain a 24-7 operations data team with expertise in all aspects of DataOps. and The team will include a combination of internal staff and vendor support 
  • Continuously improve DataOps to meet or exceed approved service level agreements.  
  • Establish progress and performance measurements at every stage of the data flow and meet stated performance objectives
  • Manage change control, version control and deployments for all data and analytics applications
  • Monitor database servers, user & system databases, and scheduled jobs for all applications
  • Ensure data quality and consistency with all relevant stakeholders 
  • Manage the data through its life cycle in operations, ensuring the quality and integrity of the data is maintained from source system across the data platforms, establishing tooling and processes as needed
  • Lead the setup and management of Analytics & Reporting tools like Power BI, SSRS, and WebFocus
  • Lead the functional capability and act as the key point of contact for any matters related to strategic alignment, budgetary compliance, management updates, resource utilization and implementation to leadership
  • Facilitate and champion strategic change management initiatives - gain support and mobilize resources to achieve the business objective from change
  • Serve as mentor for managers and staff, provide support and guidance for staff development and identify and action succession plans
  • Foster a team environment, recommend training programs targeting specific areas of improvement, mentor members of the IT team and write and communicate performance reviews
  • Develop and communicate IT & technology objectives; inspire and motivate team members to achieve results
  • Build organizational talent by creating a learning environment that ensures employees realize their highest potential
  • Actively work to streamline processes with the goal of speeding delivery to the customer while balancing risk management objectives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or Information Technology
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of total experience working in Data Operations environment and a minimum of ten (10) years of total experience in an Operations Lead role 
  • Certification in Data Analytics & Big Data such as CAP etc.
  • Experience with DataOps, agile methodologies and tools
  • Significant Enterprise Data Warehouse knowledge
  • Snowflake  knowledge will be an asset
  • A demonstrated track record with managing vendors.
  • Working experience working on Big Data/Open Source Technologies
  • Awareness of, adherence to and compliance with Data governance, risk policies, procedures and compliance policies
  • Core background in areas such as BI and analytics, data management, data modelling, data quality, data governance, master data management and metadata management
  • Demonstrated experience within the domain of advanced analytics and data science
  • Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills
  • Ability to operate sensitively and effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Bilingual in English and French is preferred
