The Lean Advisor provides frontline support, mentorship and play a key role in deploying the Lean methodology and ensuring its sustainability.  Works directly with Site/Station Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors, and frontline employees to foster lean thinking and adoption.  Supports frontline to translate ideas to implementation within their area of influence or capture ideas for management and value stream team review.  Identifies and shares best practices and assesses potential for replication to other areas of the business.  Perform time studies and ensure integrity of the data capture and observations.  Provides support to optimize the management operating system and accelerate the culture change. Creates a positive and collaborative environment, inspiring employees to simplify work environment and processes.
Key Functions & Accountabilities: 
  • In-conjunction with business leaders, develops strategies to improve process performance for the assigned station, adoption of lean thinking and best practices.
  • Mentor business initiative leader on standard work practices, root cause identification, process waste, Gemba, 5S, and error-proofing opportunities.
  • Expert in Lean methodology, deliver highly interactive, engaging and meaningful sessions while maintaining a high level of energy throughout the delivery.
  • Empowers employees to present ideas, create improvements and solutions with business leader support. 
  • Set up the Time and Motion studies and ensure integrity of the data capture and observations throughout.
  • Provides opportunities for frontline innovation and best practice replication.
  • Facilitate and lead Lean events as a subject matter expert: 5S, lean layout, visual management, error-proofing, root cause analysis, etc. 
  • Tracks, monitors and mentors employees to develop and excel in their action plans to continuously improve.
  • Properly identify risk and issues, implementing mitigating actions to remove roadblocks. Facilitate problem-solving and decision making, escalating as required. 
  • Ensures initiatives are aligned with IT where applicable and synchronized for the best outcome for the organization.
  • Develops, clarifies, and manages scope, defines deliverables and achieves targeted outcomes.
  • Obtains approval from the process owners and sponsors on initiative changes, design, implementation of process improvement.
  • Organize appropriate business update meetings to ensure senior management are kept informed of progress and outcomes. 
  • Fosters the spirit of communication, collaboration within the organization leveraging new or existing best practices, tools and Operations Excellence methods.
  • Collaborate with the Organization Effectiveness team to ensure initiatives have an effective change management /communication plan with proper performance management.
  • Ensures that new processes are documented and that changes are communicated.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent tenure as Lean Practitioner.
  • Lean Concepts / Value Streams / Total Productive Maintenance / Change Overs
  • Green Belt Certification is an asset
  • Self-starting proactive individual who can work well independently and in a team environment
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience leading lean frontline initiatives, delivering benefits.
  • PC proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Graphical and statistical applications).
  • Able to travel.
