Reporting to the Senior Director, Facility Projects and Property Management, the Manager, Environment, Health & Safety will be responsible to maintain, improve and support programs, policies, standards, training and processes in support of Corporate/Corporate Real Estate Health and Safety and Environmental objectives. This position is also responsible for safety awareness programs and audit reporting leading to safety change management while ensuring compliance with Labour Canada (HRSDC) and Environment Canada.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment programs and regulations within Corporate Real Estate.
  • Responsible for the overall management of Corporate Real Estate Health & Safety programs and audits.
  • Lead the development of EHS procedures for the Corporate Real Estate branch.
  • Provides recommendations to Corporate Real Estate – leadership based on health, safety and environment data analysis.
  • Manages all risks assessments and audits for Corporate Real Estate property management and assigns corrective actions to individual management teams. 
  • Responsible and administrates Corporate Real Estate – Safety Information Management System SIMS /Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in collaboration with Corporate Real Estate 
  • Manages Corporate Real Estate Workplace Health, Safety Committees, Policy Committee and Hazard Prevention Working Group scope aligned with branch process,
  • Responsible for the Corporate Real Estate – hazard Prevention program and inventory by leading working group to meet the Canada Labour Code requirements for hazardous materials, WHMIS
  • Represents Corporate Real Estate – Property Management at Corporate Safety and Environment level on Health, Safety and Environment change management committees.
  • Manages health and safety and environment audits, reports and provides recommendations to Safety Review Boards (SRB) and Corporate Safety Board (CSB)
  • Manages health & safety and environment investigations
  • Liaise and develop a strong working relationship with Corporate Safety and Environment, Transport Canada, Environment Canada and labor Canada 
  • Responsible for collaborative approach to safety change management through safety influence at all levels of the organization. 
  • Manages employee health and safety regulatory training requirements for Corporate Real Estate employees to remain compliant.


  • University or college degree.
  • Previous experience in a safety leadership role of at least five years.
  • Health and Safety accreditation or working toward an accreditation preferred (CRSP). 
  • Experience in dealing with Canadian government authorities (Labor Canada, Health Canada).
  • Extensive knowledge in Health and safety regulations, Environmental regulations, Fire code and fire safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence changes.
  • Great leadership skills with ability to be assertive while maintaining diplomacy and political awareness.
  • High regard and respect for confidentiality. 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable.
  • Innovative and ‘out of the box’ thinking while demonstrating and promoting a sense of urgency.  
  • Motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic team player able to work independently while juggling priorities. 
  • Strong understanding of Facility Maintenance activities. 
  • Ability to travel to facilities across Canada.
