Aligned to business priorities, these positions direct the planning, design, and implementation of improvement activities for the Planning & Maintenance value stream. Along with the Director, Operations Excellence and the leadership team of its value stream, will coach and assist operational teams in achieving performance goals and objectives, and provide leadership and oversight for improvement initiatives including effective change management. Works with the Planning & Maintenance branches leaders to effectively manage the portfolio of initiatives and deliverables of each focus area (workstream). The Managers, Value Stream Oversight – Operations Excellence is accountable to deliver efficient, cost effective, standardized customer-centric solutions. Well-rounded in process improvement, program management, consultative skills and a strong ability to lead improvement efforts and teams. Responsible for a team of improvement experts, deploying them to enable and mentor the business to implement sustainable solutions, adopt lean thinking and leverage best practices. Create a positive and collaborate environment for employees to foster lean thinking and resulting actions. Provides lean training as required by value stream requirements. Chair and manages the effectiveness of Advisory Boards. 

  • In-conjunction with business leaders, develop strategies for the Planning or Maintenance value stream to improve process performance, adoption of lean thinking and best practices.
  • Lead team of Operations Excellence professionals and manage them to deliver streamlined processes, improving customer experiences, enabling profitable growth and becoming more efficient.
  • Foster the spirit of communication, collaboration and continuous improvement within the organization leveraging new or existing best practices, tools and Operations Excellence methods.
  • Oversee employees training on lean thinking, initiative standards and methodology per Operations Excellence processes and PMP Book of Knowledge.
  • Manage pipeline of improvement opportunities to enhance the Planning value stream effectiveness, utilizing prioritization methods. Lead and support the initiative selection process.
  • Proactively manage initiatives database and monitors improvement progress aligned to operations goals and savings/benefits expectations.
  • Structure integrated initiatives and design work streams to achieve expected business results, mobilize teams to execute against initiative plans.
  • Develop and communicate business cases to support recommendations for change to business practices and processes.
  • Plan, secure resources, and eliminate roadblocks for improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure initiatives have an effective change management /communication plan aligned to Flight Path and corporate requirements.
  • Engage corporate learning and development team to design and develop learning experiences for initiatives and ensures ongoing alignment.
  • Ensure that new processes are documented and that changes are communicated.
  • Oversee approvals through initiative life cycle (from opportunities, charter, initiative workstream activities, to post closure evaluations), and assists business leaders to address barriers to success.
  • Ensure initiatives are aligned with IT and synchronized for the best outcome for the organization.
  • Organize appropriate business update meetings to ensure senior management understand cross-dependencies and are kept informed of initiative progress and outcomes.
  • Ensure the appropriate improvement approaches are used for the opportunity, and coaches’ employees on the successful application of improvement methods.
  • Create a lean and agile culture across the Value Stream; create a positive team dynamic that encourages team members to: provide feedback and drive change within the operation, adapt to the ever-changing business and stay focused on the optimization of front end processes.
  • Interacts with stakeholders at all levels, know intuitively how to best facilitate the relationship between various stakeholders and create collaboration.
  • Develop with business leaders, the organization maturity plan and vision of the future for the value stream leveraging best practices and innovation. Aligns initiatives accordingly.
  • Engages frontline in the development and implementation of improvements. 
  • Provide opportunities for frontline innovation and best practice replication.
  • Expand and share knowledge of Lean / Best practices. 
  • Lead complex process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
     

 

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated capability for inspiring and developing teams for success.
  • Ability to cultivate strong collaborative working relationships and viewed as credible.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to influence and persuade others to action.
  • Experience driving process improvement / lean strategies across different areas and business processes.
  • Effective organizational skills and an aptitude for managing the pace of change.
  • Strong analytical skills and a passion for delivering results.
  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree an asset or equivalent tenure as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Black Belt for a major branch. 
  • Project management capabilities.
  • Lean Concepts / Value Streams / Total Productive Maintenance / Change Overs
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience leading improvement initiatives, delivering benefits.
  • 5+ years in a management and/or Leadership role.
  • Experience in Planning and/or Maintenance ( an asset)
  • Familiar with statistical software and Statistics, Measurement System Analysis, Design of Experiment, Control Charts an asset.
  • PC proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Graphical and statistical applications).
  • Able to travel.
