The Business Systems Analyst's role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes for but not limited to the Operations IT Department. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects and systems requirements.

 

The Business Systems Analyst is also responsible for generating and compiling reports based on either request from users in the Operations IT department as well as reporting their own findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of Operations IT Information Systems investments.

  • Propose technological solutions to business requirements defined by the Business Analyst as well as power users and other individuals involved in Operations IT systems
  • Active participation in business case development in conjunction with the Operations IT department as well as other departments and branches when required
  • Establish detailed software specification through discussion with clients, Business Analysts and other Members in Network Optimization
  • Support existing automation processes or create new ones
  • Ensuring that the components delivered to members of the Operations IT group meet their expectations as well as interacting with the group to simplify existing processes and streamlining information access.
  • Writing detailed documentation for the operation of the program by users and computer operators and publishing the user documentation so that it is easily accessible
  • Participate in initial training sessions related to systems changes when required
  • Interface with external vendors as required in support of project or daily work.
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with third parties for technical issues.
  • Where appropriate, automate business processes using web technology
  • Recreating steps taken by user to locate sources of problems
  • Provide project status updates
  • Manage hardware environments required to support the Operations IT group
  • Perform database administration and optimization of Operations IT systems

Qualifications

 

  • Experience in business analysis, systems analysis, requirements definition and deployment of business requirements to information systems.
  • Proven knowledge of designing and building system solutions and business applications.
  • Working knowledge of transcribing business requirements into system specifications.
  • 2-3 years experience with full system development life cycle methods for developing business software solutions.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving experience to deal with complex business problems
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with an aptitude to juggle priorities to meet strict deadlines.
  • Sense of initiative, self discipline and proactive thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; must be a team player.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours, including week-ends and evening or nights on occasion.
  • Highly developed PC skills: Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access, Visio, MS Project
  • Oracle certification an asset
  • Knowledge of Database administration in Teradata, DB2, Oracle or MySql, an asset.
  • Experience in such products as SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Visual Basic WebFocus and FlySpeed an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of HTML, XML, ASP and CGI, and Linux/Unix an asset.
